06/03/2008: In January of 2007, the formerly Rx-only
topical ocular antihistamine "Zaditor" became available
over-the-counter. The cost subsequently dropped from about $60/bottle
to about $17. Recently multiple "generic" versions of the active drug
(ketoifen fumarate") have become available for even lower cost. One
example is Bausch & Lomb's version called "Alaway", which I use
myself & frequently recommend. It runs about $12:

latest addition is the Allergan version called "Refresh Eye Itch
Relief", being obviously marketed in the "Refresh" line of topical
ocular products, most of which are lubricants:

fumarate is indicated for ocular itching associated with seasonal
allergies, and it works well! It'll stop your East-Texas eye itching
in 1 min or less! It is not, however, indicated for relief of redness,
pain, vision problems, etc.
04/16/2008: Coopervision has released their 2nd entry into the silicone hydrogel contact lens market.
"AVAIRA"
(pronounced "ahv-AIR-ah") is a 2-week disposable silicone lens made of
enfilcon-A. It has a 0.5 MPa modulus (thats low...meaning its very soft), and a Dk/t of 125 (meaning its very "breathable"). It also includes UV blocking and
visibility handling tint. We are excited about this lens, as Huntsville Vision Center will be one of the 1st practices in Texas to receive permission to fit and use this new technology. Read more about it in the
Coopervision AVAIRA informational PDF file
